Healthcare for all, while being a noble pursuit, does not come without challenges. Some nations are witnessing the burgeoning disparity in healthcare provision between people with different socio-economic conditions, which is regarded as unfair. From my perspective, I partly concur with the statement owing to several rationales. To commence with, healthcare equity should be pursued regarding the considerable long-term benefits it suggests. Apropos the moral aspect, individuals should be treated as equals irrespective of their financial and social levels as it is a moral right to receive access to health care. Additionally, ensuring fair distribution of medical care also facilitates the attainment of public well-being. This could act as a precursor to a nation’s further advances in other aspects, namely economy or education. Furthermore, with respect to certain circumstances, the need of providing equal healthcare to every individual seems more pronounced than ever. To exemplify, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, if the disparity in medical care is allowed to continue at the expense of public health, it would afflict various facets of a country. In other words, healthcare equity should not be neglected as it ensures that residents are under protection, thereby standing the country in a good chance of alleviating the pandemic. Vietnam, for instance, makes Covid 19 treatment accessible to its citizens regardless of their levels, which has been proved as an effective approach in the fight against Covid-19. Although the aforementioned ideas seem valid, it is not necessarily true that providing health care service according to one’s socio-economic status appears discriminatory, especially when monetary respect is concerned. Admittedly, attaining universal healthcare may place an intolerable burden on a nation’s economy. Taking Vietnam as an example, although the country offers free-of-charge treatment of Covid-19, the cost the government has to shoulder is significant. Besides, it is justified in giving prominent figures priority over others since their well-being exerts a powerful influence over a nation’s development. Therefore, the practice of distributing healthcare based on citizens’ positions to relieve the financial pressure and maintain sustainable growth is inevitable. In conclusion, status-based allocation of medical care, while being an inappropriate approach, should not be perceived as completely unjustified concerning some situations. Thus, when deliberating over the basis of a healthcare system, national budget and class privilege should be taken into consideration.
