I strive to improve my leadership skills every day. I am an active alumnus of AFS India and to begin with, I was one of the virtual trainers in a virtual project which was initiated by AFS India in 2020. This project focused on conducting online Pre-departure Orientations for the students selected for the KLYES scholarship. One session per month was conducted for six months out of which I was a trainer in five of those sessions. Similarities and differences between Indian and American culture, high school, program guidelines, do's and don'ts etc were some subjects that I oriented the students on.
Apart from that, I am also a member of the sending department of my local AFS chapter. My work is to assist the National Office of AFS with the applications, parent orientations, panel interviews and home visits. In addition, I am a member of The HEART Alumni committee which is supported by the US Consulate. The aim of The HEART is to build a robust community for the alumnus of the US Consulate. We planned around eight community service events and I successfully contributed to the first two events. Currently, I am assisting in evaluating applications of Asia Kakehashi Program which is a 10 months high school exchange program to Japan.
Furthermore, I believe that my engagement in such activities has developed my networking skills, time management, problem-solving skills and decision-making skills quite a lot. Ultimately contributing to the development of my leadership skills.
