Book review The book I read recently is “Lolita”, olLK
The book I read recently is “Lolita”, written by a famous novelist Vladimir Nabokov. This book is touching and showing themes of our society that most people are unaware of. Its written from the first pronoun by the professor with pseudonym Humbert Humbert and tells us about his obsession with 12-year-old girl, Dolores Haze, his stepdaughter. The book starts as if Humbert is taking to officers in prison and explains the way he got here. Readers get to know him better, about his first love, a little girl, who he wanted to have intercourse with but was not able and it affected him and made obsessed with that image of a young, beautiful girl. Later on, he cannot get over his obsession, but tries to suppress it by sleeping with young prostitutes and even marries a woman, which was trying to look young by makeup and tight clothing. But he was not able to sleep with her and got divorced soon. Moreover, he decided to move from that town and becomes a tutor for a Dolores and lives in a house with her and her mother, that liked Humbert and was trying to seduce him. There were really intimidating moments in the book that had most readers shook, but even so we cannot deny the charisma and elegance of the main character that wins sympathy of readers. After reading that book, I was overwhelmed by the emotions it caused and even now I am not able to suppress the sympathy that I feel for main character, even though I find his actions disgusting. However, author wrote this book so well, that you yourself start to think that the main character really cannot control his wishes, but this is a trap for which most of the readers fall and I am not different. I would recommend that book to people that are older than 16, because it has sex themes in it, but I think it is essential to read it to finally get to know this issue better.
