a turtle excluder device is not a good tool for sea turtle species

The author of the reading believes that a turtle excluder device is not a good tool for sea turtle species which get accidentally caught in the nets and provides three reasons of support. However, the lecturer rejects the claim made in the reading, casting doubt on all the three reasons presented in the passage. First, the author claims that a few of the turtles will be trapped during the shrimp fishing. This point is challenged by the lecturer. She says that it is true that turtles trap rarely, but there are many commercial shrimp fishing boats. As a result, more than 1000 turtles will be trapped every year. Second, the author of the reading states that there are some more effective alternative methods rather than TED related to protect of turtles. The lecturer rebuts this. She argues that some of the alternative theories are true only in theory. She elaborates on this by mentioning that TED is easier than other methods such as monitoring all the nets, and it is impossible. Finally, the writer mentions that TEDs are not practical for large sea turtle species which threat to extinction. The lecturer points out that presented TEDs are small for large turtles, but we could produce some larger TEDs. She puts forth the idea that producing large TEDs can solve this difficulty.
