He was a soldier and he came back from war with PTSD. The violence that he witnessed during the war continues in his behaviors back home. Because he cannot get over it. Therefore, he always wants to be in control and to achieve that he continuously manipulates people around him. There is violence against women from Danny’s side. He holds Marley’s arm very tightly, hurts her and also, he scares her with his letters. Jade, on the other hand, becomes the target of Danny’s physical abuse; Danny uses her instead of Marley because he cannot bring himself to kill Marley. He tortures Jade and then he kills her. Therefore, we see the theme of presence of violence not only in the warzone but also in civilian life. Danny is simply the stereotype of a traumatized man who comes back from the war and he is not healthy mentally.
