The line graph illustrates the consumption of margarine, butter and low fat & reduced spreads over a period of 26 years. Overall, it is noticeable that consumption of three spreads fell at the end of the year. The grams of margarine and butter went down over the period shown, while for low fat and reduced spreads increased. In 1981, the amount of butter was the most popular of margarine and low fat & reduced spreads which was at 140 grams, whereas the purchase of margarine was about 90 grams. However, in 1996, low fat and reduced spreads were begun to eat by consumers at about 10 grams which was showed the lowest point at the period given. In 1986, the grams of butter consumption decreased dramatically to 50, while margarine also dropped significantly to 40. There was a slight increase for low fat and reduced spreads in 2001, just above 80. By contrast, this figure was the highest level in the other spreads in the final years.
