The idea is to create a non-profit app called Feed Me and the mission is to reroute food waste from restaurants onto the tables of people who need it. I hope to achieve this through utilising volunteers who can transport the food. Restaurants actually have to pay to the Garbage collectors to get rid of the waste which technically is still edible and can be used. FeedMe eliminates this step by relying on volunteers to instead transport the groceries. I also believe that this will incentivice more restaurants to donate their food waste. To understand how the process works, let's take a look at our first user, Shubham who is a restaurant owner in Delhi. I approach Shubham and tell him about our service and Shubham realises the perks of working with us. First feedMe would eliminate the cost of donating food waste. He would be able to reduce his operating costs as per the statistic provided before. He would also be able to improve his restaurant's reputation as customer’s appreciate businesses that are helping those in need in the community. All Shubham needs to do is open the app when he has excess food on a day where he knows that business is low and he cannot sell it all. He will fill out what food he has and what amount. From here, food insecure individuals that also have the app will receive a notification that a restaurant in their area is looking to donate food. If interested, they can sign up. We do wish to prioritise individuals because some might not be able to leave their homes safely and stand in the line. If within 30 mins no individual claims it, the app sends a notification to one of our partner food banks or shelters in the area. Once we know where the pick up and drop off locations are, the app then updates our volunteer portal with the delivery that's needed. The volunteer then signs up for the delivery and uses their own transportation, whether that be public transport, a car, or even a bike in the summer to get the food from the restaurant to the customer. The basic idea of the app is ready and I plan to have 2 months of piloting in order to test this idea without an app to see if it works before development begins. After refining the idea from there, I plan to reach out to an app development company in India and outsource it to lower costs. I hope to have a working beta in 6 months and once it's ready, we’ll run test cases by partnering with restaurants. I have planned the beta cycle to last for 6 weeks where we’ll monitor for any bugs. Based on the feedback we receive, we’ll further develop the app. After these 6 months of development we’ll also move onto the marketing stage because we’ll need volunteers to help with the beta testing.
