This bar chart demonstrates the proportion of owned and rented houses between all available residental units in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011. Percentage numbers are reported by a decade interval in the mentioned period. Overall, English and Wales people tend to own houses more frequently recently in comparison to 1918. In terms of owned accomodation, merely less than a quarter of all houses were owned in 1918. Despite slight fluctuations, number of households increased steady reached a plateau by 2001. In fact 2001 was the peak for the number of homes bought by people in England and Wales with dedicating an approximately 70% share of the total houses. On the other hand, rented houses experienced a significant drop over the last 80 years, which shrank it's quota from more than three-forth of the all homes to a bit more than 30% in 2001. However, there is a sign of growth in rented houses percentage in England and Wales and it seems people in these regions tend to opt rented houses. Similarly, There is a decrease in number of residents of owned houses from around 70% to less than 65% in 2001 and 2011 respectively.
