The tables enumerate the sales of fairtrade labelled coffee and bananas in five major European countries and it is compared between the years 1999 and 2004.
Firstly, there was a rapid growth in the sales of coffee from 1999 to 2004 in the UK. The sales skyrocketed from 1. 5 million euros to 20 million euros. Belgium had also a similar trend with an increase of 16 million euros. Switzerland transactions doubled to 6 million euros in 2004 and the other two remaining countries had a minor increase in the gap of 5 years.
Secondly, the bananas sales in Switzerland multiplied by three-folds to 47 million euros in 2004 compared to the year 1999. UK and Belgium showed an upward trend with an approximate growth of 4 million euros. Whereas, In Sweden and Denmark there was a significant downfall in the sales.
On the whole, coffee sales had a rise in all five countries. On the flipside, banana sales had decreased in two countries. In a single year, the highest point of business was recorded in the year 2004 in the Switzerland banana sales and the lowest point was seen in the year 1999 in the Belgium banana business.
