The table represents the percentage of old-aged people in Japan, Germany, USA and Italy during the years 2000 and 2010.
Overall, compared with other countries, a huge proportion and a low rate of elderly population during the 10 years period were recorded in Italy.
In the year 2000, 40 percent of the population consisted of mature people in Japan, whereas during the following decade this rate declined by 4% and as a result made up 36%. The percentage change in Germany and USA every 5 years was almost at the same level, where it decreased from approximately 30% to 26 and 27 per cent, respectively.
Unlike the above mentioned countries an increasing tendency was observed in Italy. At the beginning of the 21st century almost one-fourth of the population was old; however during the following 10 years the rate rose dramatically and reached its peak to 43% in the year 2010.
