The table illustrates the proportion of people who died due to six different reasons divided into four age groups in Victoria in 2010.
Overall, the percentage of people dying because of car accidents was the highest of all. Meanwhile, the main cause of death of elderly people was falls.
Regarding criminal acts, poisonings and drownings, 15% of people aged 0-18 dying because of criminal acts was the same as that of poisonings while 19% of people were drowned. The older people get, the less percentage of people who died due to those reasons, however, the figure for older people drowned was 12%.
Moving to car accidents, suicides and falls, there was a huge difference in the percentage of the youngest group and people aged 19-30 who committed suicide, which stood at 1% adn 31%, respectively. Car accidents were the dominant reason leading to non-natural deaths of all age groups, fluctuating from 20% to approximately 30%. Nearly 5% of people who were aged 19-30 fell compared to about 35% that of the over 50 group.
