The table compares top ten countries in terms of medals obtained/gained/won in the 2012 Olympic games. In overall, the USA is reported to have won the greatest number of medals in total while the pattern is reverse for Hungary. As can be seen, with 46 gold, 29 silver and a total of 104 medals the USA is ranked as the leading country followed by China at 38 gold and overall 88 medals. Russia which received overall 82 medals is outranked by Great Britain in terms of gold medals at 24 and 29 respectively. Despite having the same number of gold medals German athletes outperformed those of France regarding silver and bronze medals at 19 and 11 compared to 11 and 12, respectively. In like manner, two other countries on the list, namely, Italy and Hungary showed a similar pattern with the equal number of gold medals. However, again Hungary is ranked lower than its counterpart with smaller number of medals in total. With a total of 35 medals which is higher than those of three other countries Australia completes the top ten list as the ranking is based on the number of gold medals.
