The bar chart given illustrates the percentage of women when delivering their first child in Australia in different ages in three separate years 1966, 1986 and 2006. As can be inferred from the chart, the age at which first-time mothers increased over the period shown. Another main feature is that the proportion of women who gave birth to their first aged 30 and over experience an upward trend, while women aged 30 or under was witnessed an opposite trend. In 1966, the percentage of first-time women decreased from nearly 38% to more than 10% at the aged of 19 and under. A similar downward trend was seen in the women when delivering their first child aged of 20-24 in 1996. Starting from 65 %, this figure experienced a decline north of 32%. Between 1966 and 2006, 15% was the proportion of first-time women from 30 to 34 years old. The rate increased significantly to less than 50% in 2006. A similar tendency was seen in the percentage of women who gave birth to their child aged of 34-39. However, there was a slight fluctuation in the first-time women between 25-30 and over 40 years old in the last time examined.
