The table illustrates the reasons why the English citizens get involved in art exhibitions over a 20-year period. Overall, the figure for people attending events in order to accompany children and for work-related reasons has experienced upward trends, meanwhile the number of people choosing to attend an arts event as a form of celebration and desire to see artists has witnessed opposite trends. The percentage of people who attended events for a desire to see a particular performer has remained the highest over the period and only declined by a unnoticeable proportion of 2% to 56% in present. Meanwhile, the rate of people who attended arts events due to special occasions or celebrations dropped gradually from 27% 20 years ago to 20% a decade ago then falling significantly to 9% today On the other hand, a substantial growth has been witnessed in the percentage of people accompanying children, from 9% 20 years ago to just under a quarter today. There has been a slight increase in the figure for people attending arts events for work or business, from 6% 20 years ago to just over 10% today.
