In Accounting and Finance, I see a deliberate and rabid desire to assist people in their best interests. Thus, the analysis of financial statements with a beneficial mind is what I love most about it. Gaining more insight on handling money in the real world interests me and has led me to pursue it as my major. Last year, I chose to do work experience at an accounting firm in British Columbia, but it shifted to an online approach because of the ongoing pandemic. I was able to finish it successfully and received a certificate for it. Since it was online, I improved my excel skills and acquired the rudiments of the tasks in a firm. At school, I was given the opportunity to make a financial plan and sell lanyards to the students. It was an intriguing yet challenging experience and although it was repetitive it increased my passion to study Accounting when the product made a profit. The competitiveness to make a bigger profit than others boosted my confidence to put in more effort. The critical thinking of other sellers inspired me to present a discounted price to attract potential customers. Even though my business obtained success when consumers engaged with my innovative product, I feel that accounting and financing play a vital role by tracking the incomes and expenditures for the business’s further growth. This led me to volunteer at the Vancouver children’s festival, Luminary Festival, and the Christmas festival where I exemplified my communication skills by guiding individuals. Perusing business articles keeps me up to date with finance, as well as broadening my understanding of how successful businesses work. In The article “Apple’s Accountants Are Apparently Insanely Great at Their Jobs”, the accountants cleverly invested the company’s revenue into stocks and bonds to diminish the tax rate from 35% to only 9%. I found this extremely brilliant as I analyzed balance sheets and general journals. Additionally, they paid fewer taxes than Walmart who had a smaller profit than Apple. The article inspired me to do my capstone project(a multifaceted assignment that serves as a culminating academic experience for students) on accounting in which I received a great grade. The project ensured that accounting and finance are what I would like to pursue at university. My Grade 12 subjects have in some ways assisted me to develop certain skills needed for accounting and finance. Pre-calculus 12 enhanced my problem-solving skills and made me comfortable in algebra which is crucial in the monetary world. I also took chemistry 12 to develop my critical skills; I grasped the idea of balance that is needed in Chemistry(atoms in a reaction) and as well as Accounting(Debit and Credit). My experiences of Accounting 12 have indicated to me the importance of financial information used to settle on key business choices and made me quick to consider it in more profundity. Outside Academics, I thoroughly enjoy athletics and venturing out to new places. I played for the soccer and badminton teams at my school. I am a colossal fan of FC Barcelona, a Spanish soccer team that has taught me leadership and collaboration. Being perceived as the global financial centre and having an extraordinary international reputation are a portion of the reasons I am choosing to study in the UK. I am fluent in spoken and composed English as I finished four years of English in Canada as evidence of my English abilities. Through the entirety of my experiences, I mastered new skills and understood that accounting and finance will be requesting yet given the chance I realize I have the motivation and abilities to prevail in this course.
