The two pie charts illustrate the proportion of Oscar winners for seven different film genres in two different years 2003 and 2008. Overall, in both years, the most winners received Oscar prizes for their work in Thriller films. However, the proportions of Oscar winners for Thriller films in 2003 was quite higher than the one in 2008. Firstly, the percentage of Thriller and Action films that won Oscar changed significantly, going down from about half of the total to one-third in 2008, in contrast, Action film proportion increased from about 20% in 2003 to approximately a quarter in 2008. The other differences were Science fiction, Romance, Documentary and Horror. All those genre films grew in 2008, but Horror films, Science fiction and Documentary rose to almost 20% in 2008. For Romance films, the proportion went up to about 15% in 2008. To conclude, many more Action, Science fiction, Romance and Documentary films gained Oscar in 2008 than in 2003. Thriller and Horror films, however, decreased in 2008. The percentage of comedy maintained the same level in 2003 and 2008.
