The picture illustrates the wheel of life in which a Monarch butterfly. ORN6j
The picture illustrates the wheel of life in which a Monarch butterfly. In general, the cycle has different stages starting from an egg, leading to the development of a fully-grown adult Monarch butterfly. An egg is placed on a milkwood leaf in the first stage of this life cycle. The egg hatch into a larva after 3 to 7 days. This is known as a Larva stage. The caterpillars consume over the following 10 days in order to develop and go to the next stage of the cycle. This stage is sometimes referred to as the caterpillar stage. The graphic depicts key changes in the butterfly's development throughout this time span. The butterfly finally emerges from the chrysalis, but its wings are too little and shrivelled to fly, so it must wait while fluid is pushed into the veins to grow and stiffen the wings in preparation for flight. This might take up to 8 to 12 days and end up with a mature butterfly after molting the chrysalis. The butterfly may reproduce once it has learned to fly, and the cycle will begin again.
