The maps below show the centre of a small town called Islip as it is now, and plans for its development. oRplw
The two maps compare the current city centre of Islip and how it will look like in the future after the proposed redevelopment. Overall, it can be seen that the town centre will become more modernized. Notably, a ring road will be constructed at the center of the city and several new facilities will be built. Looking at the current map, the town centre is developed around a main road with shops to the north and the south of the road. There is wide spread of countryside to the north while housing area occupies huge amount of space in the south. Furthermore, two side roads can be seen. One of them leads to a school which is located in the south-west whereas the other to the park in the south-east. Although the southern part of Islip is not expected to see big changes other than some new housing and a smaller park, there are many changes planned for the northern part. First of all, a circular road which will be a dual carriageway will be constructed. The middle part of the main road will only allow pedestrians. Moreover, shops to the north of the main road will be demolished so that a bus station, shopping centre and a car park can be built. However, the shops, school and the housing areas in the south will remain as it is.
