The line graph shows the number of goods transported by four different modes of transport namely, road, water, rail and pipeline in the UK within the period of (1974) and (2002).
Overall, it can be seen that the highest goods transported by via road, whereas pipeline remained the lowest used mode of transportation over the entire period.
In 1974, about 70 million tonnes goods were transported via road and this quantity increased to nearly 100 million tonnes towards the end of the period.
Starting at 5 million tons in 1974, goods transported by pipeline steadily increased to above 20 million tonnes in 1982 though this figure continued stable between the period of 1982 and 1990. After that, it plateaued at the same figure till 2002.
Both levels of road and railways started about 40 million tones in 1074 the former rose to at nearly 50 million tonnes in 1982 and again in 1998, this was sleep rise to above 60 million tonnes at the end of the given period, conversely the latter plummeted to 30 million in 1986 thereafter some fluctuation occurred following years, even though this figure raised back to its original level at 40 million tonnes in 2002.
