The table shows changes in percentages of answers of people surveyed on the importance of communication skills at work. In general, most of the figures rose from 1997 to 2006. The percentage of workers who think that external speaking skills are important, such as competence in specific products and services, consulting customers, and being able to work with people rose slightly by 3-5%. However, the talent of product selling fell from 24% to just 21% over the period. When it comes to the skills you need inside the company, more importance was given to all the micro-skills in 2006 than 9 years before. For example, teaching others, convincing, analyzing problems with colleagues seemed to be more significant for about 5% or more questioned than a decade before. similarly with the skill of listening having risen by a whopping 9% which cannot be said about managerial planning skills: there was a rise in 1% only. Overall, it can be clearly seen that both external and internal communication soft skills became more important throughout a decade.
