The line graph illustrates the number of items transferred in the UK by road, water, rail, and pipeline from 1974 to 2002. Units are measured in million tonnes.
Overall, it is evident that delivering goods via roads was the most popular transmission method during this period while pipeline delivery system was the less-traveled one. Although, water transport and railway transport both started to carry the same amount of products at first, the figures then grew totally different from each other.
In 1974, the number of merchandises carried by roads was over 60 million tonnes which rose dramatically to about 100 million tonnes by 2000. Waterway transport has shown the same procedure for conveying stocks as road transport which was an increased pattern from 40 million tonnes to over 60 million tonnes during the period given.
On the other hand, the pipeline process has increased approximately to about 20 million tonnes by 1994 but remained the same in the final years. Rail transfer system procedure has had a fluctuated course of action until 1994 but went up sharply in the last years.
