The line graph illustrates the amount of items transported through four different ways (road, water, rail, pipeline) in the period from 1974 to 2002 in the UK. Units are measured in million tonnes.
All in all, road remained relatively high rate and was the main way of transportation, while pipeline consistently accounted for the lowest proportions throughout the whole demonstrated period. Water and rail started at almost the same rate after which water steadily increased and rail on the other hand gradually decreased.
With regards, to the amount of goods transported through road and pipeline, road started at 50 million tones, while pipeline started at about 9 million tonnes. Proportions of both ways increased steadily and road climbed to 82 million tonnes, however, in about 1996, road usage level marginally decreased to 79 million tones before soaring and reaching a peak at 100 million tonnes in the final year. Similarly, pipeline gradually increased to 18 million tonnes after which it shrank and evident reached 21 million tonnes and displayed unchangeable from around 1995 to 2002.
Water and rail began with 39-40 million tonnes from 1978 water started increasing and rail way started plummeting. Water soared to 60 million tonnes then it slightly dropped (about 50 million tonnes respectively) and eventually increased to over 60 million tonnes. Meanwhile rail marginally shrank to 30 million tonnes and finally increased and comprised 41 million tonnes in 2002.
