The line graph gives information about the proportion of people who had occupations in three sectors of the economy in the UK over a decade from 2000 to 2010. Generally, it is evident that there were considerable upward trends in the employment rates of both public and self – employed sectors, whereas the figure of private sector experienced a decline throughout the period. Another interesting point is that, in 2000 the proportion of private sector was the highest, but it was replaced by the figure of public sector from 2004 and remained the highest until the end of the period. In 2000, the private sector had the highest employment rates, at around 50%, in comparison with roughly 40% of public sector and 20% of self – employed. It then proceeded to decrease steadily, reaching 20% in 2010, which was the lowest point. With regard to the public sector, having remained stable for the first three years, the figure witnessed a significant rise from nearly 40% to over 50%. As for self – employed, the proportion increased gradually until the midst of 2007, when it exceeded the private sector, then ended up at 30% in 2010.
