There are varieties of activities including reading, hiking, going to the theatre, watching TV and surfing the internet. Overall, it is clear that hiking has been by far the most popular activity over the period shown. Watching TV has been second most popular while surfing the internet has been the least popular one. Among these, hiking has seen the most significant growth in popularity, with considerably rising from around 20% in the 1980s to a peak of 80% in the present. Around 60% of elderly watched TV at the start of the period, afterwards, there was a steady rise in the trend until the 2000s before making a drop to a low of 70%. Despite the decline, watching TV has still been the second most popular one nowadays. On the other hand, surfing the internet was the least popular activity between the 1980s to 2000s. Nonetheless, the figure has experienced a dramatic rise to approximately 50% onwards. Concerning going to the theatre, people took less interest at the beginning. However, the proportion of people has increased steadily to about 45%. People enjoyed reading in their leisure time from the 1980s to 1990s. However, after a decade, there was a significant dip to a low of 20% in this activity. From that time, the trend of reading has risen considerably to around 60%, which is an increase of 40%.
