The line graph depicts how three kinds of spreads were consumed over 26 years between 1981 and 2007. Units are measured in grams. As an overview, the consumption of margarine and butter declined over the given timeframe, whereas that of low fat and reduced spreads ascended. In 1981 around 140 grams of butter were consumed so it was obviously the most popular spread. This figure peaked at 160 grams, before declining drastically to about 50 grams in the final year. Likewise, the amount of margarine began at approximately 90 grams. Subsequently, it witnessed a slight fluctuation, followed by a considerable drop to 40 grams in 2007. The consumption of low fat and reduced spreads started at 10 grams in 1996, and then rose significantly, peaking at just over 80 grams in 2001. Afterward, a gradual decline took place, ending the year up at roughly 70 grams. That amount ultimately made low fat and reduced spreads the most popular one at the end of the period.
