The line graph illustrates the percentage of oil used in Iceland, Sweden, Italy, and Turkey from 1966 to 2006 as a proportion of each nation’s total energy comsumption. Overall, it is clear that Turkey’s proportion oil use dramatically increased the 40- year period. Meanwhile, the share of oil usage in Italy was sharply flat, but the figure for Sweden and Iceland decreased. Looking at the graph more closely, one can see that Turkey had the lowest percentage of oil use in 1966. At this time, the nation depended on oil for around 60 percent of its energy needs, which was only two-third of the proportion Italy used. However, at the end of the period in question, Turkey’s percentage was consistantly high maintaining a share of between 80 to 90 percent throughout the period. By contrast, Sweden and Iceland experienced gains percentage declines during the first half of the period, with each droppng approximately 40 percent. He share of Sweden’s oil usage went on decreasing gradually, reaching 35 percent in 2006. Iceland had a small percentage rise from 1986 to 1996 before dropping considerably to around 20 percent in 2006, the lowest share of oil use among the four countries.
