In 1980, the amount of paper & packaging produced in the forest industry was about 230 million tonnes. The figures for sawn-wood and wood pulp were lower, at 200 and just over 160 million tonnes respectively. In 1990, paper & packaging production in the UK rose to 250 million tonnes, whereas the figures for the other two different types of product both dropped to 150 million tonnes.
In 2000, the amount of paper & packaging remained highest. 350 million tonnes of paper and packaging was manufactured in this country, compared to over 150 million tonnes of sawn wood and only 130 million tonnes of wood pulp.
