The chart illustrates the difference between women's and men's wages in the USA during the period of 1975 to 2005 for 4 age ranges. Overall, it can be seen from the chart that people aged between 16 and 24 remained the highest percentages over the years, whereas the 45 to 54 year-olds is reported to be the lowest most of the time. It is also remarkable that in 1999 the figures for the oldest group surpassed people at the age of 35 to 44. Initially, the youngest age group experienced a sharp increase by 12% from 1975 to 1985, followed by a gradual rise in the following years. In terms of the 35 to 34 year-olds, it is also noted that there was steady growth before leveling off at 84%. After that, the figure rocketed to its peak at around 90% at the end of the period. On the other hand, people aged from 35 to 44 underwent a slight fluctuation. After stabilizing in the first five years, the data increased moderately and reached a record high at 74% in 1995. However, the proportion dropped in a while. It was not until 2000 did it recover, gaining its previous level.
