As per the graph on the X-axis we are provided with the years from 1951 to 2009 and on y-axis show the variation in first marriages and remarriages. The all marriages line tells us the fluctuation in marriages between 1951 to 2009. At beginning there was a period of stability from 1951 to around 1961 then figures started climbing back to 490, 000 in 1971, suddenly a sharp decline can be seen between 1971 and 1981, and again downtrend started with a moderate decrement per year till 2009. The trend line for first marriage saw a consistency in numbers from 1951 to 1961, when it started to make its record high with 390, 000 marriages in 1971, however it falls dramatically till 2001 and continuing the period of stability again under 200, 000. The dotted line representing remarriages showed a down curve from 1951 to 1971, although showing a partial growth in 1971 above 100, 00 and maintaining its trend till the end of 2005, at last the overall trend seems to go downwards.
