The graph illustrates how much amount of the three spreads(margarine, low fat and reduced spreads and butter) was consumed between 1981 and 2007. The amount consumed is measured in grams.
Overall, the amount of spreads eaten between 1981 and 2007 has reduced significantly. Furthermore, the low fat and reduced spreads were not consumed until 1996 and were larger portion in 2007 as compared to margarine and butter.
Butter was highly consumed in the year 1981(slightly above 140 grams) while margarine was at the second spot. In 1986, butter reached the peak of consumption(slightly below 160 grams), while margarine saw a drip in the amount of consumption from around 90 grams in 1981 to 80 grams in 1986. While butter saw a sharp decline in popularity from 1986 to 2007(around 50 grams), the popularity of margarine increased from 1986 to 1991(100 grams), but remained constant from 1991 to 1996. Margarine saw a slight drip from 1996 to 2007(40 grams).
In 1996, low fat and reduced spreads were merely consumed, while butter and margarine were consumed around 7 times and 10 times that of low fat and reduced spreads consumption. Low fat and reduced spreads showed a dramatic increase in their consumption from 1966 to 2001(slightly above 80 grams), while there was a slight drop in low-fat consumption from 2001 to 2007(50 grams).
