The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport. 7EL3
The provided line graph indicates the number of items delivered, measured in a million tonnes, of four different categories, namely, the road, water, rail, pipeline in the United Kingdom, over a 28 years, from 1974 to 2002. As an overall trend, it can be apparently seen that despite of fluctuating of all figures, they had increments at the end of time, except the pipeline where it increased steadily. Between 1974 and 1978, the tendency of the water stagnated at 40 millon tonnes, whilst rail’s figure was lower slightly than it. However, in 1978, they commenced indicating a converse trend, and during the next 24 years, both oscillated, then reached peaks above 60 and 10 million tonnes, respectively. Besides, the road’s data stood below 80 million tonnes, whereas the pipeline’s rate was lower than approximately 65 million tonnes. Afterward, the former group experienced a fluctuation throughout the periods and in 2002, was below 100 million tonnes, while the latter one had a steady rise by 1994. Henceforth, the quantities of the pipeline didn’t change until 2002.
