The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph illustrates the percentage of people aged 65 years and above in the three countries United States, Sweden and Japan between the years 1940 and 2020. Also, it presents an expected proportion of old people in 2040. Overall, it can be seen that the three countires observed a significant increase in the population of old people over the years. In addition to that, it is anticipated that Japan will have the highest proportion of elderly people. In 1940, the ratio of old people in USA and Sweden was respectively merely 9% and approximetly 7%. However, over the years both these numbers doubled and this can be seen in 2020 where the percentage was merely 18% in the USA and 15% for Sweden. On the other hand, Japan noticed rather a slow climbing in the number of people aged 65 and older over the years from 5% in 1940 to apporximetly 8% in 2020. Although Japan has the lowest number of elders nowadays, this will change in the future where it is overseen that Japan will be sitting at the top with merly 27% of its population being elders. Moreover, Sweden and USA shall continue their growth in the number of old people in the future being behind Japan at respectively 25% and around 23%
