The graph below shows the amount of goods transported in the UK from 1974 to 2002
Information about how many products were transported in the Great Britain by four different means over a twenty-nine-year period between 1974 and 2002 is represented by the line graph. The units are measured in a million tonnes.
As can be seen from the line graph, the values of rail, water and pipeline experienced an upward trend, in contrast the figure for rail.
Turning to details, pipeline contributed the smallest part, rising gradually from nearly five to just over 20 million tonnes during the period. The goods transported by road started at about 70 million in 1974, and by the end in 2002 rocketed dramatically to nearly 100.
By contrast, despite a small increase between the first 4 years, the use of water had then climbed rapidly to just under 60 million by 1982 and reached a plato under 1994. Having declined minimally to just under 60, the use of water went up tremendously to approximately 65. From 1978, the value of rail fell to about 30, then rose to just under 40, and did not change its position until a little over 1990. Having plummeted to just over 20, the figure grew to 40.
