The given charts compares a household expenditure in the UK and New Zealand for the years 1980 and 2008.
It is clear from the charts the cost of living in New Zealand was higher than in the UK with the exception of leisure which one had to pay more in UK. Expenditure on Other was virtually the same over the given period.
In 1990, people in New Zealand paid more in terms of food and drinks, utility and transportation than those in the UK. People residing in New Zealand and UK spent 29% and 23% of their salaries on food and drinks respectively. New used an amount which is 1% higher than money paid in UK for utility bills. When it comes to transport, it was 17% for New Zealand and 15% in the UK. In contrast, residents in UK settled the cost of leisure with 27% of their salary which was 40% more than the amount used in New Zealand. However, both countries spent 9% on Other.
In 2008, all the categories of expenditure saw an upward trend excluding food and drinks which fall from 23%to 13% in UK whiles New Zealand decline from 29% to 25%
