The given chart illustrates the proportion of rented and owned apartment in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011. Households which were rented had the biggest percentage in the first year. Overall, in 1918 apartments which were rented was on the top by just under 80%, while owned ones was only 22%. The percentage of accomodation rented was the same 68% between 1939 and 1953, while owned ones was just over 30% in these years. Meanwhile, households in owned apartments rise slightly to 40% from 30% in 1961. In 1971, owning and renting apartments was in the same percentage of 50%. However, there was a gradual increase in the proportion of owned houses (60%) in 1981. On the contrast, the figure of renting accommodation declined to 31% in 1991 and remained constant until 2001.
