The chart reports how much money people in four European countries spent on six different items.
Overall, it is clear the UK was the biggest spender in all the categories listed. Another interesting point is that the combined expenditure of all the four countries on photographic films was noticeably larger compared to spending on the other consumer goods.
The most remarkable difference in expenditure on consumer goods can be seen in Britain and Germany’s spending figures. Around 25 thousand pounds more was expended for photographic films in Britain than in Germany, where people spent little over 145 thousand pounds. Virtually same amounts can be reported for spending on toys, except for the British who spent less than 170 thousand pounds to buy them. The expenditure on the remaining categories, namely CDs, perfumes, tennis racquets, and personal stereos varied between 145 and 150 thousand pounds for Germany while in the UK it was well over 150 thousand pounds.
In contrast, Italy and France registered fairly similar spending amounts for some of the items listed. Toys is an example of a consumer good that assumed the same amount, at about 160 thousand pounds from both countries. The sales of tennis racquets and perfumes in France were both at around 145 thousand pounds, which were roughly 10 thousand pounds less than those in Italy. Another striking similarity in purchasing habits of the French and the Italian was seen in expenditure on stereos which stood at approximately 150 thousand pounds.
