The maps illustrate how Queen Mary Hospital has developed during three different periods (1960, 1980, 2000).
From the overall perspective, it can be clearly observed that the place experienced significant changes regarding the expanding of hospital by demolishing shopping centre and farmland. By the end of the period, there have been four buildings, with pharmacy and hospital being combined, and cancer centre being the largest one.
In 1960, the area of hospital was located among three different facilities, namely shops, farmland, and car park, taking place in the south-east of the main road. The building comprised the similar size of the area as almost others, with farmland having been a bit larger.
By 1980, shopping centre and farmland have been knocked-down and converted into cancer centre and nursing school respectively. Meanwhile, pharmacy appeared to be joined with the Queen Mary hospital, substantially reducing the size of the cancer centre.
In 2000, having replaced the area of nursing school, the centre which was preventing cancer witnessed a huge contribution to its size, being subsequently the biggest building. Following this, the parking was divided into two equally small areas, which were then shared by both the nursing college and car park.
