The pictures present information about the formation of sand dunes. It is apparent that sand dunes can only be formed on wet ground, and that their formation requires strong winds so that great quantities of sand particles can be gathered. Looking at the diagrams in detail, we can clearly see that sand particles first scatter on the ground due to strong winds and those landing on dry ground continue to be blown away. On the other hand, if some particles land on wet ground, they start to stick together. Among these, some gradually become moist and thus, sticky and when the winds blow, more sand particles from other areas are carried to this area, starting to adhere to this newly-formed dune. The process continues for a period of time, with more sand particles joining the dune. When the dune is high enough, it redirects the wind, which begins to go upwards instead of downwards like before. This results in the formation of another dune in the wet sandy ground in the next area.
