The diagram demonstrates the operational procedure of a solar powered water pump which is used to supply water to a village. There are three main components in the system, namely; solar panel photo-voltaic cells, underground bore or well and the water storage tank.
The major source of energy to the system is the sun. The first step in the process is capturing and storing solar energy in the photo-voltaic cells in the solar panel which is located directing the incident rays of the sun. The panel is mounted on a pole which is placed above the ground level. The next step is transmission of direct current from the photo-voltaic cells to the bore pump in the underground bore or well. Finally, water is pumped to the water retention tank above the ground through a pipe line fixed to the bore cap. This water remains in the tank until it is distributed for the consumption of the villagers.
