The diagram below show stages in the development of the aeroplane since the first powered flight in 1903. BLPep
The pictures illustrate how airplanes evolved since their invention. It is clear from the diagrams that over a period of more than a century, aeroplanes' dimensions, the number of passengers they can carry and their speed increased considerably. Starting with Wright Flyer invented in 1903, we can see that it had a basic design with a propeller and measuring 6m in length and having a 12-meter wingspan. This original airplane prototype, with a maximum speed of 16km/h, could carry only one person, a pilot. In 1935, a more developed Douglas DC-3 was invented. As opposed to the first model, it had engines and was long enough to serve 28 passengers as well as 3 crewmembers. Although this model's dimensions were slightly larger, its speed was significantly faster: 347km/h. The latest and the most advanced airplane shown had been created by 2004. Called Airbus A380, it could speed up to 1050km/h and transport 555 passengers at a time. Unlike the former two aircraft, interestingly, this version had a longer wingspread (80m) than the overall length (73m).
