In the most of the regions the % of male who can read and write is higher than female. Central Asia and central Eastern have the highest % of people who can read and write. Nearly 100% of both genders are literate in those areas. The lowest literacy rate are in Subsaharan Africa. In 5 out of 7 regions, there are different literacy rate for men and women. The biggest difference between genders is found South and west Asia. In this region 80% of men can read and write in contrast to this just 60% of women are able to read and write. Overall, the difference between the most literate region and the least literate region is about 30% for men and just over 40% for women. To conclude, literacy rate vary between areas with males having higher % than female in most regions.
