The pie charts illustrate the percentage of water used for agricultural, industrial, and domestic purposes by six regions of the world- North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia.
Overall, most of the areas used water for agricultural purposes, except North America and Europe. Here it is mainly used by industries.
Starting with South America, a significant proportion (71%) was used for agriculture, 19% for household use, and relatively least by industrial sectors. A similar trend was observed in Africa and Central Asia. The former used 84, 9, and 7 percent of water and, the latter used 88, 7, and 5 percent of the same for agricultural, domestic, and industrial use, respectively. Like other zones mentioned above, even Southeast Asia used water majorly for watering their crops but used least for household chores.
On the other hand, North America and Europe utilized a considerable amount (48 percent and 53 percent respectively) for industrial purposes. Almost a third of the water is used for domestic purposes by Europe. North America used more than a third for the same. Lastly, both of these used around less than a fifth for domestic basis.
