Task 1:
These line graphs depict the changes in consumption of electrical appliances in a country given from 1920 and 2019 and the total number of hours of housework per week.
Generally speaking, there was a sharp increase in the ownership of all three appliances during this time, in particular refrigerator and vacuum cleaner, while a great decline was recorded in the amount of time spent on housework.
As is observed in the first chart, in 1920, washing machine was the most common with 40% in total while about 10 percent lower claimed the appearance of vacuum cleaner in households. The figure of washers rose significantly before reaching its peak at about 75% in 2019. Undergoing a gradual growth, the ownership of vacuum cleaner reached 100% in 2000 and continuously became one of the most commons facilities.
In comparison, nearly no one owns a refrigerator in their house in 1920. However, in the next 60 years, the percent of it increased dramatically and reached the top in 1980 as well as became the most favourite tool, along with vacuum cleaners.
Due to the support of electrical appliances in housework, the amount of time people spent on doing chores slumped significantly from 50 to 15 per week between 1920 and 2000. After that, it slightly dropped to just about 10 hours per week in 2019.
