The chart shows the change in the rate of unemployment in Australia during the year 2012. In the first quarter of the year, the rural areas observed higher rates of unemployment being around 6. 5% as compared to the urban areas where it was estimated around 2%, which was significantly lower. The situation changed by the second quarter when the rural areas saw a 2% fall in the unemployment rate, while it rose up to 4% in the urban areas. From here, the rate remained around the same for rural areas, rising up by 1% in the third quarter but then dropping to 5% by the end of the year. However, it showed a significant change in the urban areas where it dropped again to 2% in the third quarter and then increased to around 5% by the end of the year. Overall, we see the unemployment rates were very different for the areas initially in 2012, but as the year ended, the rates were close to 5% for both, the rural and urban areas.
