The bar chart illustrates how many lakes in North America had been covered in ice from 1973 to 1992 and from 1993 to 2012 on average. Overall, Erie had the most lakes covered in ice in both twenty-year periods. However, in Superior, the proportion had reduced significantly over time. On the one hand, with a figure of 30%, Erie had exhibited the largest share during the first period. Although it had dropped to about 27% in the latter period, it still had the highest percentage. On the other hand, the lakes in Ontario were least affected, as they only consisted approximately 5% of the share. Across the period, the percentage had decreased to less than 5% in Ontario, which was the smallest among all five regions. This also presented the smallest change, which was about 3%.
