The chart shows the results of a survey which had the purpose to analyze the number of people who visited four types of tourist attraction in Britain in 1999.
The most popular of the option taken into account was Theme Parks, which were visited by 38% of tourists. Since it was the highest in rank, the survey dug deeper and discovered which Theme Parks people were more keen to go to. The one with biggest number of visitors (47%) was Blackpool Pleasure Beach, which positioned significantly higher than the others in the rank. Alton Towers and Pleasureland in Southport were respectively the second and third, with a difference of only 1% from each other. Chessington World of Adventures and Legoland in Windsor obtained both a 10% and came in last.
However, despite Theme Parks being the go-to choice of tourists in Britain, it wasn't by much. In fact a completely different kind of attraction, such as Museums and Galleries, came in second with a difference of just 1%. This means that recreational tourist attractions and more educational ones are not that distant and far apart from each other in terms of interest and appreciation.
It's a different situation for Historic Houses and Monuments, which apparently are less appreciated by visitors in Britain. In 1999 only 16% of tourist decided to pay a visit to this places.
However, the lowest place in the rank belongs to Wildlife Parks and Zoos, which scored a mere 9%.
In conclusion, we can say that two completely opposite types of attraction, such as Theme Parks and Museums and Galleries, were found to be the most popular choice by tourists in Britain in 1999, with a significant difference from the other two that were taken into account.
