The given bar chart illustrates the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011. Overall, from 1918-1961 households in rented accommodation were more. In contrast, from 1971-2011 rented accommodation was more, and percentage of both rented and owned households were same in 1971. In the case of owned accommodation, the percentage was least (21%) in 1918, which kept on increasing and reached around 69% in 2001. Between 1939 and 1953, the percentage was the same that is 31%. In 1961, 1971, 1981 and 1991 the proportions were 41%, 50%, 60% and 68% respectively. On the other hand, the percentage of rented accommodation was highest(79%) in 1918. The rented accommodation reached the lowest in 2001 around 31%. Also, in 1971 both the owned and rented accommodation were in equal proportion that is 50-50. In 2011, rented accommodation was increased slightly by approximately 5%.
