The chart below shows the number of trips made by children in one country in 1990 and 2010 to travel to and from school using different modes of transport. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart illustrates the number of trips per year in millions via various means of transportation by primary grade students in the year 1990 and 2010. Overall, walking was the most popular method of visiting schools in 1990. Moreover, this trend changed and car riding became a favourite type of transportation in the year 2010. Meanwhile, riding a bicycle was the least used method of travelling to and from school. Riding cars gained popularity while, every other means of transportation saw a decrease in 2010. In 1990 children used walking to reach school and back for almost 13 million times but its popularity declined and only 6 million trips via foot were reported in 2010. On the other hand, car riding trips rose sharply from 4 million in 1990 to 11 million in the year 2010. Cycling, public bus rides which were almost equally used for trips in the year 1990, lost their popularity with cycling trips dropping more than bus rides in 2010. Trips which utilized walking as well as a bus ride were decreased to 3 million in 2010.
