The bar chart gives information about the number of trip that pupils used for going and return back from school in one country during two decades from 1990 and 2010. Overall, among the five travelling methods, walking was the most popular method used in 1990, while car passenger was used most by pupils in 2010.
In 1990, it can be seen that walking was the most selected method for commuting to school with over 12 million of trip made by children. This number was almost 4 times higher than the number of car passenger which was just over 4 million. Meanwhile, numbering at around 6 million trips made by the other three methods were practically identical.
In 2010, it is clear that the number of each method was dramatically decreased almost threefold, except the number of car passenger. This figure rose sharply to over 11 million over the period. In contrast, for walking method which was the most popular way in 1990, dropped to half in 6 million, yet still placed in the second. Lastly, travelled by bus, walking and bus, and cycling were at 5 million, 3 million and two million respectively.
