The chart below provides information on urban population growth in some regions of the world including predictions about the future. The bar graph shows the rate of population growth forming in Africa, Asia, Latin America and whole world from 1950 to 2000 and to 2030 into the future. Overall, in all areas the urban population has increased to a certain extent and is likely to continue to increase in the future. In 1950, Latin America had the highest urban population, amounting to 42% of the total population. On the other hand, in Asia and Africa where the population is less urban, the percentages are 14% and 12% respectively. However, it can be seen that the population has increased in all regions, but is expected to continue to increase in the future. The next, in 2000, the population of Africa was one third of the urban population. In addition, the population in Latin America accounts for more than two-thirds of the urban population. Also in 2000, urban and rural populations worldwide were in equal percentages. By 2030, the urban population in the regions is projected to increase from 10% to 15%. In particular, people in Latin America will be in cities about 80% and the proportion of urban people worldwide will be 60%.
